TITUSVILLE, FL -- Priests for Life National Director Frank Pavone issued the following statement today after a bill was introduced in the Florida Legislature to repeal the law that protects babies once a heartbeat can be detected.

“The sponsors of this bill say they want to heed the will of Florida voters by making abortion available until viability, but the truth is, Floridians voted for the lawmakers who passed the Heartbeat act, we voted for Gov. Ron DeSantis, who signed it, and we defeated the ballot amendment that would have removed all protections for the unborn and their mothers.

“Floridians want babies protected, not killed,” Pavone said. “The Heartbeat law has saved 23,000 babies since the law was enacted in May 2024. If our abortion law in Florida is going to be changed, it should be changed to protect these babies from fertilization on, as more than a dozen states already do. Florida leads the nation in so many things. Let’s help lead the way back to protecting all the children.”
