S. 78 The Pregnant Women’s Health and Safety Act
S. 78, the Pregnant Women’s Health and Safety Act, would establish
protections for women seeking abortion. To ensure continuity of care for a
woman who has an abortion, the bill would require an abortionist to have
admitting privileges at a hospital no farther than one hour away from where
the abortion took place.
To better assure that minimum standards of care are maintained by abortion
clinics, the bill would also require any abortion performing facility that
receives federal funds to be licensed by the state and to meet federal
standards for ambulatory surgical centers.
