Early voting

In person – Any voter may vote early in person, no excuse required. Early in-person voting is available for the Presidential Primary between February 15 and February 28; For the State Primary between July 13 and July 28; and for the General Election between October 17 and November 1.

Voters may vote early and in person at their local County Election Commission Office or other locations around the state. To find places and times for early voting in their area, voters should call or visit their local County Election Commission Office. Contact information for these offices is available at http://tnsos.org/elections/election_commissions.php.

By mail – A voter may vote early by mail if he has a valid excuse. Valid excuses include: the voter will be outside his county of registration during the in-person early voting period (see above) and on Election Day; the voter or his/her spouse is a registered student at a college outside his county of registration; the voter’s doctor attests that the voter is not able to go to the polls; the voter is over 65; or the voter is disabled or the caregiver to a disabled person.

Applications to vote by mail must be received by February 28 for the Presidential Primary; July 26 for the State Primary; and October 30 for the General Election. Absentee/vote-by-mail ballots must be returned by the close of polls on Election Day.
