Early voting in person - It is not permitted in this state to vote in person before Election Day.

By mail - A registered voter may vote early by mail if he meets one of several qualifications, among which are that on Election Day he will be absent from the state, he will be absent from his city or town of voting residence because he is a student or spouse of a student, he will be too ill or mentally or physically disabled to vote, or religious tenets will prevent him from voting. An application for an absentee ballot must be received by the voter's local Board of Canvassers at least 21 days before the election. An application for absentee ballot may be downloaded by going to www.sec.state.ri.us/elections/elections/formapplications/FormsApplications.html/ and clicking on "General Election Mail Ballot Application." The application may have to be witnessed or notarized. For more information, the voter should contact his local Board of Canvassers, contact information for which may be found at www.elections.ri.gov/Boards/boards.htm.
