Early Voting in RHODE ISLAND
Early voting in person - It is not permitted in this state to vote in
person before Election Day.
By mail - A registered voter may vote early by mail if he meets one of
several qualifications, among which are that on Election Day he will be absent
from the state, he will be absent from his city or town of voting residence
because he is a student or spouse of a student, he will be too ill or mentally
or physically disabled to vote, or religious tenets will prevent him from
voting. An application for an absentee ballot must be received by the voter's
local Board of Canvassers at least 21 days before the election. An application
for absentee ballot may be downloaded by going to
www.sec.state.ri.us/elections/elections/formapplications/FormsApplications.html/
and clicking on "General Election Mail Ballot Application." The application may
have to be witnessed or notarized. For more information, the voter should
