Fr. Frank Pavone comments on Vote on
Pain bill
December 7, 2006
Washington DC -- Commenting on yesterday's vote in the
House on the Unborn Child Pain Awareness Act (HR 6099), Fr. Frank Pavone,
National Director of Priests for Life, said, "Though the vote did not meet the
two-thirds majority required under the special rules by which it was conducted,
it nevertheless showed a strong majority of support for this commonsense
measure. It will be a key priority of our organization to challenge the new
Congress to take up this legislation."
Fr. Pavone continued, "Current law requires that measures
be taken to eliminate or minimize pain in animals. This bill would not even go
that far for unborn children, but would merely provide the mother the option to
relieve pain for the child. To fail to take such a modest step reveals a
hardness of heart that defies both reason and compassion."
