WASHINGTON, D.C. – Jan. 22 is the most important day on the calendar for the pro-life movement, as we mourn the tragic anniversary of Roe v. Wade and solidify strategies for the upcoming year during the March for Life.

This year also marks the 20th National Memorial for the Pre-Born and Their Mothers and Fathers, the nation’s premiere ecumenical pro-life prayer service, which will take place from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Jan. 22 in the DAR Constitution Hall.

Sponsored by the National Pro-Life Religious Council (NPRC) and several other national groups, the service of preaching and song brings together clergy from dozens of denominations, all united in the cause of saving the unborn.

“Everything we do on behalf of the unborn begins and ends with prayer,” said Father Frank Pavone, President of the NPRC and keynote speaker at the event. “And to pray together, across denominational lines, shows one of the most powerful dynamics uniting the Body of Christ: to stand with Christ is to stand with life, and therefore to stand against whatever destroys it."

Brad Mattes, CEO of the Life Issues Institute, will be honored with the National Pro-Life Recognition Award, given annually by the NPRC during the service.

Sponsoring organizations for the service that grows each year include the National Pro-Life Center on Capitol Hill, Faith and Action, Priests for Life, Gospel of Life Ministries and National Pro-Life Radio.

Serving on the Host Committee for the service are Tony Perkins, President of the Family Research Council; Gary Bauer, President of American Values; Dick and Shirley Bott of Bott Radio Network; Rich Bott, President and CEO of Bott Radio Network; Bob Reccord, Executive Director of the Council for National Policy; Alan Sears of  Alliance Defending Freedom; Alveda King, Director of African-American Outreach for Priests for Life; Brad Mattes, CEO of Life Issues Institute; Charmaine Yoest, Ph. D., President and CEO of Americans United for Life; Pastor Luke J. Robinson, Director of Voice of Truth and Life Ministries; Pastor, Quinn Chapel of the A.M.E. Church; Austin Ruse of  Catholic Family & Human Rights Institute;  Archbishop Craig W. Bates, Patriarch of the International Communion of the Charismatic Episcopal Church, Ernie Ohlhoff, National Right to Life Committee; and Pastor John Peyton, Senior Pastor Reconciliation Community Church, Host of “A Message of Reconciliation” on WAVA 105.1 FM and 780 AM

“As we gather for this prayer service this year, we will also issue a strong call for religious liberty in America,” Father Pavone said. “Those who oppose our stand for life increasingly oppose our freedom to take that stand. Now it is time to unite more strongly than ever for both life and freedom!” Priests for Life recently won an injunction against the unjust HHS mandate that would require employers to provide health insurance coverage for practices they find morally objectionable.

The National Memorial will be preceded by a Catholic Mass at 7:30 a.m. in the same venue. The service is free and open to the public. DAR Constitution Hall is at 1776 D. St NW, at 18th Street in Washington, D.C. For more information, go to NationalPrayerService.com
