Priests for Life
Convenes Diverse Pre-Election Press Conference
On September 23, 2004, Priests for Life, in collaboration with the National
Pro-Life Religious Council and Gospel of Life Ministries, called together a
Press Conference of many varied groups to convey one message: Support for
abortion is inconsistent with public service.
People and organizations of different political, ethnic, and religious
backgrounds all delivered a common message to those who hold and seek public
office: if you support abortion, you are unworthy of public office, because
abortion is an act of violence that destroys the public.
Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life,
delivered opening remarks. Each group then made a brief statement. There
were Jewish, Muslim, and Christian religious leaders, as well as an atheist.
There were Democrats and Republicans. There were Native Americans, Black
Americans (including the niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.), and Hispanic
Americans.
Following are some of the press statements issued by the various groups who
